Our Organic Theobroma Cacao beans are grown in the rich soils of tropical climates of South America. The best raw cacao beans are harvested, broken apart and left to ferment and dry before being washed and broken into small pieces (nibs). Recently recognised as a highly nutritious Superfood, raw cacao nibs are the least processed and most natural form of raw chocolate. It’s the best choice for those who want to eat chocolate whilst staying healthy and fit.

They’re showing up in more places than ever: baked in fancy restaurant desserts, folded into ice cream, and even lining the shelves of grocery stores. But their exact origin and nature is still something of a mystery to many people. I’m talking about cacao nibs.
What are cacao nibs? In case you missed my post about how chocolate is made from bean to bar (or if you need a refresher): nibs are bits of fermented, dried, roasted and crushed cacao bean. That’s it! Nibs you buy in a health food or gourmet grocery store are just chocolate that hasn’t been ground and mixed with sugar yet. They’re extremely good for you, and have an intense chocolatey taste, but aren’t sweet at all.
Personally, I think cacao nibs are delicious. The texture is unique—crunchy yet tender, like a macadamia nut, with the mouth-cooling properties bestowed by the magical substance that is cacao butter; and complex, with a bitter cacao flavor. The flavor takes a little getting used to, and there are certainly a wide range of qualities of nibs (as there are with anything). If you’re already a chocolate lover, chances are you’ll be into nibs. Buy raw, organic variety to get the best taste and nutrient benefits
Benefits of Cacao Nibs
Here are 7 great nutritional benefits from eating this great, ancient ingredient.
In my opinion this is the best reason to eat cacao nibs or dark chocolate in general. Antioxidants help fight off free radical damage in the body which can cause DNA damage, premature ageing and even cancers. Think of antioxidants as firefighters putting out a blaze. And cacao is one of the highest sources of antioxidants
Flavonoids come from plants and can be responsible for giving pigmentation and colors to being involved in UV filtration. They are similar to antioxidants in that they have a free radical scavenging capacity and have anti-cancer properties while other flavonoids show potential for anti HIV function. We get flavonoids from fruits, vegetables, teas, wine and a significant amount from cacao. Essentially the antioxidant activity comes from flavanoids
- Can Fight Cardiovascular Disease
There is a positive relationship between intake of flavonoid rich foods such as cacao and lower rates of cardiovascular-related mortality. In the 1930′s to early 50′s flavonoids were actually referred to as ‘Vitamin P’ because of the effect they had on the permeability of vascular capillaries. That study linked here has shown that as little as 5 grams of cacao powder is sufficient to elicit significant vasodilation of the brachial artery.
There is a huge amount of fibre in just a one ounce serving of cacao nibs. 9 grams! This can help control your blood pressure and blood glucose levels. This fibre can also help lower blood cholesterol as well as helping keep bowel movements regular. You and I are close now and I think we can definitely talk about that…
A one ounce serving of cacao nibs has 64 milligrams of magnesium making it one of the best dietary sources of it. Magnesium is starting to be really recognized as a very key element for the body as it is involved in hundreds of functions in the body such as:
- protein synthesis
- muscle and nerve function
- blood glucose control
- blood pressure regulation
This time in a one ounce serving you are looking at 183 mg of potassium! Potassium is crucial for life, it is key in heart, kidneys and other organs to function properly. Potassium is found in a lot of foods including cacao nibs but the average person is not eating a healthy diet and low potassium is associated with:
- risk of high blood pressure
- heart disease
- digestive orders
- Improved Mood
Chocolate and cacao help stimulate the brain into releasing neurotransmitters that can trigger feel good hormones. One of those unique neurotransmitters released by cacao is phenylethylamine. This “love drug” releases endorphins giving us alertness, contentment and a better sense of well-being.

I love the crunchiness of theses especially in my smoothies and/or power drinks. I use raw cacao nibs together with the raw cacao powder for a more intense cacao taste. Great to sprinkle on top of porridge and and fruits. I love it with dates and nuts.
Absolutely fantastic product for a reasonable price. I’ve been trying to move away from ordinary milk chocolate and consume raw cacao instead. I would recommend mixing these with other foods or smoothies as they can be quite bitter on their own. I use it with museli, smoothies and even salads! Cannot get enough!
These are fantastic, they taste great, like the best quality chocolate without sugar and dairy. All that pleasure with no guilt and they’re healthy too. I’ve bought more and plan to continue buying.
